General Information About the
Hale "Standard" Patio Pet Door for Sliding Glass Doors
The first really high quality panel pet door on the market was released by the Pet Eze company in the 1970's. This door, eventually called the 'Deluxe 81', required tools including a hacksaw for installation. But it was a beautiful product. Hale
Pet Doors (formerly Hale Security Pet Doors) has essentially copied the Deluxe 81 in many respects but added their own flap assembly and locking cover
in creating their Standard Patio Pet Door.
Installation requires cutting the top of the panel
and an 'adaptor channel' with a hacksaw. Then the panel is fastened into the track with sheet metal screws. This 'semi-permanent' installation is required because the built-in locking mechanism mates to an 'adaptor channel' that mounts to the edge of the pet door with sheet metal screws. This 'adaptor channel', which also must be shortened with a hacksaw to fit, performs two functions. First, it provides something for the lock to mate to. Second, it provides a very good, air-tight seal down the full length of the sliding glass door.
Hale has added a
Lexan ('polycarbonate') locking cover in a 'J' shaped slot for increased security. There is a spring-loaded steel dead-bolt to lock the cover in place. Most exciting, Hale has included a double flap for improved insulation value
(single flap version is available though not recommended by the
manufacturer). This flap assembly consists of two flaps, both fully weather stripped as in the other Hale pet doors, and both with magnets to stand up against wind. The dead air-space between the two flaps provides for better insulation than a single flap alone.
We need two bits of information from you
to order this Hale patio panel. This information is requested by the
shopping cart:
-
Carefully
measure
your track height. Hale will build the panel to any height (that's
why it takes so long) but they need a correct measurement to begin with.
-
Also, be sure you've indicated
which direction your sliding door closes when on the inside looking out. Hale
will mount the panel lock for you and it is not reversible.
Return Policy: Because these pet doors are built
custom to your specification, returns will be allowed a 50% credit toward
the purchase of a different Hale Pet Door. The Patio Pacific
normal return policy
applies in respect to time limits only.
There are quite a few details that might be important for you to think about
in purchasing any panel pet door.
Begin with 'Key
Points' to get a quick overview of the most important issues. Then study the
'Comparison
Chart' and read the information on the
Patio Panel FAQ page which cover the fine points of patio pet doors.
All Hale pet doors come standard with "polar"
flaps--a vinyl that is more flexible in cold weather than "regular"
vinyl. Replacement flaps may be ordered here Hale Pet
Door Replacement Flaps and Locking Covers.
Very flexible 'training' flaps may be ordered for
pets who are initially resistant to pushing through the regular
flaps.
Important:
Hale 'Standard' panels are not recommended for Anderson or Pella brand sliding
glass doors. Use a Hale 'Omni'
panel instead.
